Port Adelaide is a rollercoaster. We will ever know what to expect from this side? After a very impressive win over the Cats last week, a shock home loss to the Western Bulldogs has us all of again questioning this side’s credentials just one week after we though perhaps they could push towards a home elimination final.
David Teague might just be the right thing for the Blues. Already pulling two wins from his three matches in charge. Against Fremantle the Blues looked a different side, even though they lacked super star Patrick Cripps and missed Charlie Curnow for most of the match. Things are looking up at Carlton. With a home game against the Demons next week, who knows? Maybe we could see Carlton chalk up a fourth win.
The MCG doesn’t scare the Eagles. As if we didn’t know that already from last week’s Grand Final, the Eagles once again found a way to win in highly fortified enemy territory. This side will again be dangerous come September, and they look ready to defend their crown in Victoria.
Suddenly, and rather impressively, the Swans have re-entered finals calculations. Another solid win this week, this time against the Suns sees Sydney sit just one win outside the eight, as the competition continues to tighten. It won’t be easy for the Swans, with stiff competition all around, and at least four finals spots already seemingly locked in.
North Melbourne. As above for the Swans, the Roos now slide into 11th place with a very impressive win over an overly lacklustre Collingwood side we all thought would crush North, even at Marvel Stadium.

Eric Hipwood is a star. Five second half goals to help his side stamp out a gallant Melbourne was massive. Hipwood continues to rise, especially in the eyes of his coach Chris Fagan and supporters alike. If Hipwood can play that sort of game more often, the Lions will be a danger in September.
Score review under fire again after impressive Bomber’s victory. We all saw the replays over and over again, and after Essendon clinched a thrilling victory against GWS. I hate messing with systems that work, but the score review simply does not seem to be. Each week we see a new issue with it, so it’s time to review it come season’s end, and make sure it works beyond doubt for 2020.
Maddie’s Match continues to be a fantastic day, unless you’re Alan Richardson. Another year, and another Tigers win, Richmond finished well to put an annoying Saints side away, kicking seven final quarter goals. With Brendon Bolton and Brad Scott already gone, Richardson is now the main man in the hotseat, if the Saints don’t capitalise quickly and make a very serious play for finals in 2019, it’s game over for Richo, and there are plenty of suitors about to take his spot.
Finally, the Cats were once again impressive, pulling away from a Crow’s side that for a while looked like it might just hand the Cats a second straight loss. But, crucial performances from some of Geelong’s main stars saw them hold their spot atop the AFL ladder, and rightly remain premiership favourites.
