CWC19 Power Rankings – After Week One

Where does your team sit after one week of World Cup action?

1. (3) AUSTRALIA

On an nine game ODI winning streak and with a warm-up match victory over England too, Australia are the form team of the tournament. In a World Cup with a number of upsets already, this will guarantee nothing when they take on the West Indies in their next match.

LAST FIVE: PAK (W), PAK (W), PAK (W), PAK (W), AFG (W).

NEXT FIVE: WI, IND, PAK, SL, BANG.

2. (1) ENGLAND

It might well prove to be the loss they needed to have, but for the time being their slip up against Pakistan costs the World Number One team top spot in our Power Rankings.

LAST FIVE: PAK (W), PAK (W), PAK (W), SA (W), PAK (L).

NEXT FIVE: BANG, WI, AFG, SL, AUS.

3. (4) INDIA

As the last team to play, it was an impatient wait for India before they effectively ended South Africa’s World Cup hopes in their tournament opener.

LAST FIVE: AUS (W), AUS (L), AUS (L), AUS (L), SA ().

NEXT FIVE: AUS, NZ, PAK, AFG, WI.

4. (5) NEW ZEALAND

Merciless against Sri Lanka, and overcoming Bangladesh in a thriller, New Zealand has flagged their attentions at this World Cup.

LAST FIVE: BANG (W), BANG (W), BANG (W), SL (W), BANG (W).

NEXT FIVE: AFG, IND, SA, WI, PAK.

5. (6) BANGLADESH

The Tigers victory over West Indies was their fourth straight in the ODI format and seventh in their last 10. It may have come to an end against the Black Caps but they lost no friends after their thrilling defeat.

LAST FIVE: WI (W), IRE (W), WI (W), SA (W), NZ (L).

NEXT FIVE: ENG, SL, WI, AUS, AFG.

6. (7) WEST INDIES

Couldn’t have been more impressive than they were in their first up victory over Pakistan but need a few more positive results to outweigh their pre-tournament form.

LAST FIVE: BANG (L), IRE (W), BANG (L), BANG (L), Pak (W)

NEXT FIVE: AUS, SA, ENG, BANG, NZ.

7. (8) PAKISTAN

Throwing the World Cup wide open with their victory over the hosts, Pakistan showed they weren’t in England and Wales to just make up the numbers.

LAST FIVE: AUS (L), AUS (L), AUS (L), WI (L), ENG (W).

NEXT FIVE: SL, AUS, IND, SA, NZ.

8. (2) SOUTH AFRICA

Put a fork in them, South Africa is done. On the bright side though, there will be no knockout stage heartbreak for the Proteas this time around.

LAST FIVE: W W, ENG (L), BANG (L), IND ().

NEXT FIVE: WI, AFG, NZ, PAK.

9. (10) SRI LANKA

Turning their fortunes around at the expense of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka showed they are no longer the team in the worst form of the 10 teams at the World Cup.

LAST FIVE: NZ (L), SCO (NR), SCO (W), NZ (L), AFG (W).

NEXT FIVE: PAK, BANG, AUS, ENG, SA.

10. (9) AFGHANISTAN

Would have had high hopes of winning one of their first two games. May not have a better opportunity for victory than the one they missed against Sri Lanka.

LAST FIVE: SCO (W), IRE (L), IRE (W), AUS (L), SL (L).

NEXT FIVE: NZ, SA, ENG, IND, BAN.
