1. (1) WEST COAST
Survived a late scare against the Giants but continue to look in ominous form as the season heads into the home stretch.
2. (2) GEELONG
Struggled to put away the Crows but with eight wins from their last 10 games they remain one of the teams to beat in 2020.
3. (3) BRISBANE
It’s not often that having six more scoring shots than your opposition raises more questions than it answers but that is the case for the misfiring Lions. They did enough to sink the Saints but their waywardness in front of goals could prove costly come finals.
4. (4) PORT ADELAIDE
Got the job done and continue to cling tightly to their position at the top of the ladder.
5. (5) RICHMOND
Like we say each week, weren’t at their best but a top four finish remains within reach for the defending premiers.
6. (7) ST KILDA
Again showed they can compete with the top teams but when you haven’t played finals for nearly a decade, question marks are hard to shake. Wins in their next two starts should just about do it though.
7. (9) CARLTON
Blues supporters are starting to talk about a return to the finals in 2020. Their clash with the Magpies this weekend will go a long way to deciding if this remains just talk.
8. (10) COLLINGWOOD
They are a long way from their best but they remain in the fight. Their Round 14 clash against the Blues is probably the biggest against their arch rivals for a very long time.
9. (11) FREMANTLE
They aren’t winning many style prizes but these Dockers fight hard and their defence is becoming incredibly difficult to score against. Will be giving themselves every chance to end the Giants finals aspirations this weekend.
10. (12) WESTERN BULLDOGS
Did what they had to do to against a disappointing Melbourne team but their next two games will most likely decide their fate in 2020.
11. (6) MELBOURNE
Can we make it a law that it you can’t talk about Melbourne being good again until they beat a quality opponent?
12. (8) GWS
This one time premiership favourite would do well just to make the eight at this rate.
13. (13) SYDNEY
Two goals isn’t going to win many footy games.
14. (15) HAWTHORN
Despite losing against the Power, the Hawks produced much better football than they had over the previous two weeks.
15. (14) ESSENDON
Mathematically a chance to play finals but, given their run home, would require a miracle.
16. (16) GOLD COAST
The only thing worse than playing in the worst Friday night game of the year, is being the losing team. Will be looking to bring an end to their run of outs against the Kangaroos next start.
17. (17) NORTH MELBOURNE
Jumped out of the blocks early against Collingwood but could not prevent a 10th loss in 11 starts. Will consider themselves a big chance next start.
18. (18) ADELAIDE
In the contest for three quarters against the Cats but not good enough when the game was on the line.
