Five Things We Learned:
(1) The dream is still alive (for Pakistan)
While South Africa looked depressed, Pakistan look hopeful. England’s loss to Sri Lanka now means that if Pakistan can win their last 4 games then they should qualify for the semi-finals. Not an absolute guarantee, but a maybe, and a bigger maybe than before. This is 1992 all over again. The 1-3-1 start, the first of four wins, the tournament victory? Well, one thing at a time.
(2) South Africa will lose to anyone
They didn’t even try to win this match, so their last two matches we can pencil down as losses too. They might be there physically but mentally they are long gone.
(3) Haris Sohail is a star
Well, this time at least. You can’t argue with 89 off 59, though.
(4) Even on an off day, Mohammad Amir takes 2/49
Not his best, but he still got rid of Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla.
(5) Hashim Amla shouldn’t have been here
It would have been nice if he could have been dumped in favour of he who shall not be named, Abraham Benjamin de Villiers.
